FG, ASUU meeting deadlocked over N30 billion payment platform

The meeting of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Association of Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) deadlocked for the second time in a week on Wednesday.

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige and the ASUU president could not agree on the payment platform to be used in disbursing the salary arrears and the N30bn Earned Allowance of the university lecturers.

Government had earlier agreed to
pay the salary arrears and the N30 billion Earned Allowances of the university lecturers through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System platform pending the roll-out of ASUU’s preferred platform, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, but ASUU President declined and insisted it must be through UTAS.

It’s recalled that the FG agreed to test run salaries and allowances of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) after a long strike that saw Nigerian undergraduates staying at home.

They adjourned negotiation till next Wednesday after the parties said they would reach out to their respective principals and stakeholders.
