Edo Correctional Centre attack: Niger Command fortifies facilities

Following the violent attacks on some correctional custody in Edo state, by some hudlooms under the protesters against #EndSars early in the week, the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Centre has fortified security around the two correctional facilities in Minna to forstall any envetuality.

Team of armed squad of the men of Nigeria Correctional Services, armed policemen, the military and men of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been deployed to the two correctional facilities in Minna.

The deployment of the security agencies was aimed at forstalling any possible attacks on the. facilities in Minna and other part of the state.

Speaking in exclusive interview with CAPITAL POST in his office in Minna, Tuesday, the Niger State Comptroller of the Correctional Service, Alhaji Salman Abdulkadir stated that the Comptroller General of the service, Alhaji Ja’afar Ahmed, directed that all States Command of the Service have been directed to ensure the safety of all the Correctional Centres across the country against any possible attacks by hudlooms. adsbygoogle || []).push({});

According to the State Comptroller, upon the receipt of the directive of the Comptroller General, he personally met with other sister security agencies in the State to request for their cooperation towards ensuring the safety of the two facilities in Minna which include Minna Medium custodian centre in Tunga and the old custodial centre in the centre of Minna.

He noted that the command under him, upon the directive of the Comptroller General, he swiftly responded by taking a proactive steps towards ensuring the safety of the two correctional facilities in Minna and other correctional facilities in the state, stating that the Minna Medium Correctional Centre in Tunga had in 2018 suffered some attacks by some bandits which resulted in the killing of one officer of the Service.

He explained that the command will provide the needed welfare and other logistics to combined teams of security agencies deployed to the two facilities in the state capital to boost their morale towards ensuring the full security of the custodial centre, assuring that his command will continue to motivate them to enable them put in their best in the discharge of their duty at the facilities.

He said the command will not relent in its determination to protect the centres across the state, assuring that joint security agencies have been drafted to ensure the security of the custodial facilities in the state.

The State Comptroller of the Correctional Service commended the sister security agencies in the State for their support in synergizing with his Command describing his working relationship with them as cordial.

He assured them of his Command of unfliching support at all times.
