Breaking: Suspected Fulani herdsmen on rampage in Plateau community, kills traditional ruler, 5 others

Unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen has on Monday night attacked and killed a Traditional Ruler in Wereng Village of Riyom Local Government of Plateau State Da Chung Gyang Mwadkon and five other persons

Member Representing Riyom Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly Hon. Timothy Dantong confirmed the attacks and killing of the Traditional ruler name Da Chung Gyang Mwadkon.

He said the attack took place on Monday night by suspected fulani herdsmen while the villagers were asleep.

He disclosed that three persons were injured during the attack now receiving treatment at Vom Christian Hospital.

The Lawmaker condemned the attack and described it as barbaric, and urged the security agencies to arrest the criminals

He expressed sadness that his constituents are persistently being killed by unknown gunmen, and Riyom has suffered attacks since 2001.

Capitalpost reports that the Traditional ruler Da Chung Gyang Mwadkon is the Acting Village head of Wereng awaiting coronation before he was killed on Monday night by the suspected fulani herdsmen.

Immediately past Council chairman of Riyom local government Hon Emmanuel Jugul also condemned the attack of the villagers

It would be recalled that a week ago, another traditional ruler Acting District Head of Foron in Barkin Ladi was killed in House.

Also last week the Senator Representing Plateau North Senatorial District at the National Assembly had Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang had at plenary raised a red flag on the targeted assassination of traditional rulers in Plateau state.

The Senator reeled out about ten traditional rulers that were gruesomely murdered in their domain and made a case for security to be tightened around our traditional rulers, to ensure that the increasing threat to their safety is averted.

He beckon on the Inspector General of Police to direct the Commissioner of Police in Plateau state to mobilize and beef up security in the zone and the state as a whole as it needs urgent attention.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Plateau state police command ASP Gabriel Ogaba, when contacted confirmed the attack, said the Police commissioner has deployed more security to the village.

He said investigation is on to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
