Notwithstanding the troubled atmosphere of Borno state, occasioned by the insurgents in the Northeast, Borno Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo has been praised for her strides for being on the same page of development with Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The commendation was made to mark her one year in office, while unveiling the nine major achievements of her stint by staffers of the Ministry.
They said the motivation and political will of the state Governor, under the workaholic leadership of Engineer Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, ensured the huge success already achieved in this area within one year.
As part of the achievements which include the renovation/furnishing of approved schools in Shokari Maiduguri,the state capital,along with the renovation/remodeling of Family Support Nursery/Primary School, Maiduguri.
The Ministry within one year in office also embarked on the renovation/remodeling of Blind workshop, Budum in Maiduguri,while
renovation/furnishing of Honourable Commissioner’s office complex to ensure a serene working environment, to deliver on the dividends of democracy to the people was also carried out.
The Honourable Commissioner also constructed additional hostel at Fatima Sherrif Orphanage Home in Maiduguri metropolis,as well as construction of intergrated women development centre in Budum Maiduguri, all in the metropolis.
The renovation of Women Development Center Maiduguri took the centre stage, as well as made adequate provision for De-radicalisation, rehabilitation and reunification of ex-Insurgents to detonate their mentality from the negative effects of their previous engagements.
These were carried out systematically under the leadership of the Ministry, with results already on ground, as beneficiaries of this government gesture within and neighbouring countries had enrolled fully in the programmer.
To enhance human capacity development, the Ministry introduced varieties of programmes and activities which include to empower gender based violence and survivors, celebrations of International Women’s Day (IWD),as well as the Children’s day to give both women and children a sense of belonging.
In her response,Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Developement thanked the Governor and his political mentors for finding her worthy of the onerous task and assignment, promising to do more for the betterment of the people of Borno state.
Hajiya Gambo was appointed one year ago as the new Commissioner for the Ministry by the Babagana Umara Zulum led administration in Borno state .
