Kidnapped Prof. Ekezie, others rescued, arms recovered by SARs in Imo

Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police has rescued some kidnapped victims including Professor Ekezie Christopher and recovered arms and ammunition from the kidnappers in Imo State.
The Force Public Relation officer of the command, Orlando Ikeokwu said operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARs) rescued the victims inside a forest between the Okigwe and Ideato local government areas of the State.
He stated, “On June 5, 2020, acting on a distress call from the police control room, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, stormed the Ikpaoha forest between the Okigwe and Ideato local government areas, and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle.
“The hoodlums consequently fled the scene with gunshot injuries; one English-made pump action rifle with 27 live cartridges was recovered at the scene of the incident; four kidnap victims namely: Aminu Ibrahim, 55; Prof. Ekezie Christopher, 72; Friday Udoh, 33; and Onyekachi Nwibe, 29, were all rescued unhurt.
“A black Toyota Spider car with number plate PHC 407 AG and a Honda Accord with number plate LND 262 FM were recovered from the scene.
“The victims have been reunited with their families, while investigation into the incident continues as efforts are being intensified to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.”
