April salary: Kogi workers gets 80%, LG workers 35% in fresh agreement

Kogi State government and the representative of workers who have had series of meetings negotiating percentages to be paid have reached a compromise.
The organised labour in the state have agreed on the payment of 80%salary to state government workers for the month of April.
While 35% was agreed as April salary for local government workers and teachers in the State.
Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Kogi State, Comrade Onuh Edoka, had insisted that nothing short of full salary for workers would be acceptable in a meeting that ended in a deadlock with the government team in government house Lokoja on Monday.
The State government however, exlained that the state’s inability to draw overdraft to pay salary, a practice that has been on for some months was the reason for non payment of full salaries.
According to them, Kogi State was indebted to banks to the tune of N4.
8 billion, a situation that led to the bank mopping up the March 2020 statutory allocation paid in April.
They also cited COVID-19 challenge as reasons the State cannot pay full salary.
