COE Ankpa to be converted to University of Education after 39 years

A bill to convert Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa to the Federal University of Education is before the upper legislative Chambers.
Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho representing Kogi East Senatorial district has sponsored a bill seeking to convert the school to a Federal institution.
Kogi College of Education, Ankpa was established in July, 1981 as an Advanced Teachers’ College and shared the present temporary site with its original Occupant, the Government Teachers’ College, Ankpa, later transferred to Abejukolo.
For 39 years, the College remained on its temporary site since its inception in the old Benue State.
The bill has passed first reading and the second reading is being awaited, but had been listed on Order papers for three times without mention due to other legislative activities in the Senate.
The School currently awards Certificate in Education (NCE), and start awarding degrees, if the school becomes a University.
